Darren Cabaniuk of the North West Ambulance Service today delivered a demonstration of modern CPR technique to 8 residents of Mellor Brook and the wider Ribble Valley. Earlier this year, Mellor Brook Community Centre was made the location for a Defibrillator (fitted on the outside wall facing Whalley Road) and so Darren also took the opportunity to demonstrate its workings.
In the event of anyone phoning the emergency services for assistance in the treatment of cardiac arrest or heart rhythm irregularity, where the call is made from within 250 metres of such a machine, the caller might be directed to the unit, given a code to open it and asked to follow an automated commentary to administer the electric shock which could save the victim’s life.
St Leonard’s Primary School, Balderstone has also acquired an externally mounted defibrillator, located on the front of school by the boiler house.
