| Mabon
Thursday, 18th September, 2008 Those of you who saw the band at Mellor Brook in August 2005 when they were relatively unknown, will be thrilled to learn they have agreed to stop off in Samlesbury as part of their first full UK tour. Before the UK, there's the rest of the world. By the time this autumn concert comes around, they will have played festivals in France, Spain and Mexico. We are thrilled that they want to return to repay the faith we showed in them 3 years ago. Undeniably Celtic, Mabon play a dynamic style of foot-tapping tunes which mostly come from the pen of accordionist and frontman, Jamie Smith. With their personnel swelling at the same rate as their burgeoning reputation, the decision to put them on the larger stage at Samlesbury was an obvious one. Please note that this event will take place at Samlesbury War Memorial Hall Tickets £12.00 - ON SALE NOW ! |

| Spiers
& Boden
plus special guest Brian Preston Thursday, 25th September, 2008 8:00pm (Doors Open 7:30pm) The two Johns are regular visitors to these parts having played at Mellor Brook (twice) and at Samlesbury before. They return to promote their fifth duo album, "Vagabond" and the first since 2005. With a theme based around the character of the itinerant and outsider in society, it is a return to the live feel of the early albums. Please note that this event will take place at Samlesbury War Memorial Hall Tickets

Buskers
@ the Brook put on hold Some of you will be aware that, in early 2008 I joined the Union Street Band with Julian Taylor and Richard Moss. The band is being hired with increasing regularity for ceilidhs, barn dances and the like and most often, on a Saturday night. So much so that, of the last Saturdays in the months of September, October, November and December, I am available to help run Buskers for only one. This coupled with the uncertain financial viabilty of the event has led Janet and I to decide to withdraw (although maybe only temporarily) from hosting the event. We are
going to investigate the possibility of having any future Buskers
on a Friday night but have some difficulties with the availability
of the Centre. We also need to think of ways to attract a higher ratio
of audience to performer and thus help meet our overheads. We would
welcome any thoughts or suggestions anyone may have on this. We would
like to thank everyone who has been involved and contributed to making
the evenings pleasurable for all those who attended. In particular
we thank Julian, Keith, Janet, Dave, Dylan, Richard, Ian, Penny and
Peter. |

The
Maerlock Recently signed to the Fellside record label, The Maerlock present a fresh take on the traditional tunes and songs of the British Isles as well as repertoire drawn from Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. The band has forged for itself a unique sound, characterised by driving rhythms and adventurous harmonies. Their repertoire features both instrumental and vocal numbers, intricate and rhythmically complex arrangements, as well as slow airs and good old foot-stompers. Understandably in demand for festivals (and also ceilidhs with their jazz/folk crossover project The Maerlock Big Band), they will be appearing at Beverley Festival, Brampton Live, Warwick Folk Festival, Sidmouth Folk Week, and Swanage Folk Festival during the summer. Debut album
to be released in Summer 2008. All Tickets £10.00 |
